Case Study: Neighbors For a United Atlanta
Strategic Communications to Stop a Secession Movement
What Was at Stake: Backed by a large-scale, well-funded push to pass legislation allowing only Buckhead residents to vote on seceding from the City of Atlanta, Neighbors for a United Atlanta—a grassroots coalition—faced a high-stakes challenge: making the case to residents and lawmakers that keeping the city whole mattered for everyone.
What We Did:
As lead for communications and community engagement, we developed and executed a full-scale strategy that blended grassroots authenticity with political pressure. The work included:
Building and managing a comprehensive communications plan across traditional, digital, and nontraditional media
Designing and implementing a neighbor-to-neighbor model that sparked small-group conversations and localized organizing
Training volunteers to effectively lobby at the state Capitol, and coordinating phone and writing campaigns for broader civic engagement
Framing a citywide narrative that shifted focus from fear and division to shared stability and civic strength
The Outcome:
The legislation failed to pass through the Republican-led Georgia Senate. Strategic messaging, consistent community pressure, and coordinated action helped keep Atlanta whole—and built a model for grassroots power aligned with citywide impact.
Case Study: American Bar Association Task Force for American Democracy
Mobilizing the Legal Professionals to Defend the Integrity of Elections
What Was at Stake: In the lead-up to the 2024 election, the American Bar Association launched a national effort to restore public confidence in the democratic process. In Georgia—an epicenter of election disinformation and mistrust—we led all communications for the Task Force’s on-the-ground activation of legal professionals.
What We Did:
In the capacity of Georgia Communications Director, we:
Created and implemented a targeted messaging strategy to reach and mobilize lawyers across the state
Developed toolkits and content to help legal professionals speak to their communities about election integrity
Crafted public-facing materials and supported live events that emphasized the role of lawyers as trusted messengers
Coordinated with national partners to ensure local relevance and alignment with broader civic trust initiatives
The Outcome:
Hundreds of Georgia attorneys were engaged and activated to speak confidently and clearly about the safety and legitimacy of the election process. The work reinforced the legal profession’s role in defending democracy—and helped restore trust in a high-stakes election year.
